MONDO NUOVO is designed to be presented in a variety of spaces and present a unique, intriguing and mesmerising challenge to the audience member. The work can be viewed and experienced in a variety of ways.

Either singular or grouped installations as a total performance are designed to be seen in

  • a performance context with professional dancers in a flexiform theatre
  • a gallery
  • public spaces, interior or exterior.

All three settings encourage the audience to move by inspiring a playful dialogue between the body, the live space and the recorded space and body.

At first glance the performative installations present bodies in space, dancing with a set that incorporates projection.

A deeper interpretation and analysis of the activity in the space is rewarded with the realisation that the dancers are in fact, creating the projections according to pre-determined laws which may or may not be unravelled by the viewer. In this second look at the work, the audience deciphers what is happening and can discover the complexity lying below a deceptively simple exterior.

A third context for the viewer to experience the work is the opportunity following a live performance, or, independently of the performance, for the spectator to become a participant and to explore the installations themselves.

A fourth context is that the primary installation can also exist as a film to accompany the live public installation.

An interactive bar space can also be part of the performance setting.

The full 75 minute performance version requires a wooden floor, preferably with a black dance floor laid.

Space required is minimum 10 meters wide by minimum 12 metres deep to facilitate rear projection.

Single installations can be accommodated in much smaller spaces. Please email humangarden@paradise.net.nz
